Attention disorder of a mental and spiritual nature, are a  result of a perverted taste bud...

The inability to remain focus was diagnosed as a medical condition

in order to medicate the disorder.  Why?  Well, doctors would not be able to treat ADHD (treat - a list of  steps and procedures to follow = money), write prescriptions (=money), and insurance companies would not cover it (=money).  However, ADHD is simply a lifestyle issue that is easily corrected.  Before looking at the resolution, let us consider the medical perspective.

What is ADHD?
Attention Deficit Disorder is a condition resulting in symptoms of inability to maintain attention, impulsive behaviors and/or motor restlessness.

What causes ADHD?
ADD is a neurobiological disorder resulting from problems in the dopamine neurotransmitter systems in the brain.  This reduced activity in the brain results in symptoms of inability to maintain attention, impulsive behaviors and/or restlessness. Most cases are genetically inherited. ADD is not caused by poor nutrition, ineffective parenting, drugs, or allergies (wrong - we will explain).

How is ADHD diagnosed?
- Fidgeting with hands or feet
- Problems with remaining seated
- Problems with following through on instructions
- Shifting from one uncompleted task to another
- Problems with playing quietly
- Interrupting others and intruding into other children's games
- Not listening to what is being said
- Doing things that are dangerous without thinking about the results
(sounds like a normal child to us)

Medications used to treat ADHD
Consider the following:  Psychostimulants, antidepressants, neuroleptics, tranquilizer and mood stabilizers.  Friends, those drugs sounds extremely strong, especially for children.  Notice as well, that the list does not include any natural alternative. The most commonly prescribed drug, is Ritalin.  We are getting to the punch line, so stay with us.

What does stimulant medication do?
These medications stimulate the brain to release a greater amount of neurochemicals, which are needed for smooth transmission of messages through the brain.

What about Ritalin – is it safe? (This is from a Pharmaceutical standpoint)
Yes. There is no evidence to support any hazardous complications. The therapeutic use of methylphenidate does NOT CAUSE addiction or dependence, and does not lead to psychosis.

Let us look at the other side of the story
Friends, no matter how you cut it, there is always two sides to a story.  We will explain, what causes ADHD, the bitter consequences of the medically prescribed treatments, how to effectively treat the disorder without the side effects, and the development of a spiritual disorder that we classify as ADSD (Attention Deficit Spiritual Disorder).  ADSD is not a side effect of ADHD.  It is a far more serious condition resulting from the same causes of ADHD, with eternal consequences.  Read on, this will be explained later.

There is a war ragging around us and it's being fought on the battle field of our minds.  Satan, the captain of his legions, has employed spiritual and physical weapons with the objective of destroying the control tower of man, the brain.  If he can distract us from staying focus on God, if he can prescribe drugs that will escalate the problem by impairing conscience, judgment and reasoning, then he wins the battle.  What am I talking about?  Read on and you will understand.

From the medical society, Ritalin is the most commonly prescribed drug for ADHD.  The Drug Enforcement Administration commented on Ritalin, and they had this to say, "Ritalin, is a Schedule II stimulant that produces pharmacological effects similar to those of cocaine and amphetamine and is prescribed by doctors to treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other conditions. Side effects are, appetite suppression, wakefulness, increased focus/attentiveness (for long nights of studying), and euphoria. The drug is now used as a street drug to get high by college students and adults."  DR. Lorraine Day, M.D. says that The Physicians Desk Reference of Drug Side Effects states, “we do not completely understand it.” The manufacturer Novartis says, “we don’t really know how it works.”  Naturally, we wanted to know why the FDA allows the manufacturing of this drug. We found the answer.  Consumption of Ritalin has grown over 600% - sales revenues now totaling nearly half a billion dollars annually. The use of drugs in the United States is six times greater than any other country.

Side Effects of Ritalin:
The adverse reactions of Ritalin includes, nervousness, insomnia, joint pains, fever, anorexia, nausea, dizziness, palpitations, headache, dyskinesia, drowsiness, increased blood pressure and pulse, rapid heart rate, angina, cardiac problems, abdominal pain, actual psychosis, and there is a major warning in the Physician's Desk Reference regarding drug dependency. In other words, it is addictive.  Remember, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration reported that Ritalin is being used as a street drug to get high by college students and adults.

What actually causes ADHD?
1.  Environmental Factors - pesticides, cleaning products, lead in the water, mercury, etc.

2.  Diet – Fat and processed sugars. ADHD is identical to hypoglycemia, low blood sugar which is caused by the up and down swings of insulin resulting from eating too much refined sugar.  Dr. Day reports that research has concluded that when children are taken off a diet high in sugar, ADHD symptoms go away. Sugar lowers our brain glucose and the body reacts by releasing chemical stabilizer.  The more sugar we consume, the body reacts by producing Insulin, thus lowering brain glucose again. Let us piece this puzzle together.  Remember, the medical definition said, the problem is cause by low brain activity.  As a result, Ritalin is prescribed to stimulate the mind.  Sugar is a major player in producing ADHD symptoms, and it also destroys the immune system.  Get your child off sodas, twinkies, cup cake, sweet drinks and sweeties and you will notice a significant reduction of the symptoms of ADHD.

3.  Television, video games, music and entertainment - When a steady diet of the following are fed to children, there minds becomes conditioned to processing enormous amounts of information simultaneously (lights, colors, movement, sounds, words, etc...).  The eyes and ears which sends information to the brain are trained to respond to visual and audible stimulants.  Each successive stimulant has to be more stimulating than the last to get their attention, thus perverting their attention taste bud.  Simple things becomes boring, because their creative imagination was never exercised.  Ready made entertainment is the order of the day. Most of the kids that are growing up in this push button, technologically advance era, are not presented with much opportunities to create fun their own fun from nature.  But how can they, when the television, video games and boom box have graduated to the roll of universal baby sitters.  Therefore, they were never given the chance to think.  No one seem to create situations for them that would provoke their creative imagination.  The mind thus uncultivated, craves a visually stimulating object to focus on at all times.  Therefore, when these kids go to school, and they are required to sit before an object that is not visually and verbally stimulating in comparison to their television and video game characters, they will crave a stimuli, thus disrupting the class.  If families had worship in the home, where the Bible is read, or if family activities are created rather than each retreating to the television, then they will learn to focus on a still moving, mono tone objects.

ADHD is real and many people has been diagnosed with it.  However, base on experience dear reader, if you were diagnosed with this disorder or know someone that has been, if the following three factors listed above are put in practice, the disorder will go away.

Many Christians might not have been diagnosed with ADHD, however, I believe that many has a far more serious condition called ADSD.

Attention Deficit Spiritual Disorder - ADSD
Another attention disorder, and the worst of all kinds is ADSD.  ADSD is not a condition that is restricted to a certain age group.  It crosses all age constrains affecting every man.  In other words, it is not a condition of the young, but a human condition.  A major factor which leads to this disorder if not controlled, is entertainment.  Entertainment is equally embraced by young and old and it's pursuit will develop an attention disorder in both.  The Devil has been successful in perverting our attention taste bubs through the employment of this desire.  The television is the number one recruiter and the most effective in the entertainment factors.  Base upon the nature of this media and competitiveness of its programming, the perversion seems to escalate easily.  For example, sitcoms like, "little house on the pairre," "Good Times," and "Facts of Life," are currently considered boring and outdated.  Why? Well, is it because the message is no longer relevant for this generation, or is it because we cannot identify with the characters any more?  Some cannot identify, because the current programming has seasoned their taste buds for a more radical cast.  However, the message is still relevant.  Ratings, the struggle to get and hold viewers has replaced sound messages in most televised programs.  Excitement and stimulation are the order of the day.  Therefore, each movie, each sitcom, each advertisement and each music video sets a precedence, and over the years, we have gotten condition to the trend of making bigger, better, more outrageous, raucous, verbally and visually stimulating programs.  Consequently, old classics seems to loose their appeal.  They are considered outdated, boring and dull.  Things are just too simple in those old programs, some will say.  By beholding they have become changed.  This is because the faces and attitudes of television has changed, and most of us changed along with it.  Our appetites gravitates towards the new faces and attitudes.  Therefore, the old characters simply does nothing for us anymore.  Does the ever changing face of our world have any affect on our spiritual life...?

Some of us use to have a great time at Coney Park. We would do anything for our parents to take us there. But now, we have theme parks, and they are getting bigger and more outrageous. They are more exciting in every respect. If it does not look and sound good we are not giving certain activities a second thought. That’s the trend of our mind and focus. The devil has trained us well in only finding interest in those things that will match and surpass our stimuli level.  We have become a people that speaks only of fun.  If it is not fun, then I do not want to do it, many will say.  Most of us are not meat eaters, we are sweet eaters.  Wholesome, nutritious meals are distasteful.  We like to gratify our perverted taste buds only.  Health and strength are sacrificed on the alter of cravings, and sweet fetish.  Our entertainment and our food has been manipulated by the devil.  Even our food is flashy, sweet and exciting, and everything simple and nutritious are tossed aside.  Well, what about spiritual things. Are those things fun? The sad reality is that, many people do not associate spiritual activities with having a good time.  Their taste buds are so perverted that spiritual things do not interest them.  They cannot zero in, they cannot stay at attention, they cannot focus, enjoy or truly crave more, when involved in spiritual activities.  For example, Bible study, prayer meetings, church and personal worship. Friends, the devil is behind all the outrageous music albums, movies and theme parks?  This is not far fetch, for everything that happens in this world, is influenced by good or by evil.  We are talking about attention disorders, how they develops, and most importantly, how they affect our relationship with God.

To be a Christian, we must remain focus on Jesus Christ at all times.  If you have a attention disorder, that is not possible.  That is logical, correct?  Attention disorders is another attack by the devil to sever our communication with God.  Consider what happened to Peter in
Matthew 14:28-30.  Peter saw Jesus walking on water, so he asked if he could join Him, and Jesus told him to come forth.  Initially, Peter kept his eyes on Jesus, because he knew that walking on water is not humanly possible.  However, after he  realized that he was walking on water, he took his eyes off Jesus, and immediately he noticed the boisterous winds.  At that point, fear filled his heart, and he began to sink.  Peter had ADSD - Attention Deficit Spiritual Disorder.  He was not able to remain focus.  We should allow nothing to separate us from God.  What are the distractions in your life, friend?  What is preventing you from staying focus on God?  We we are in this world, but we should not be of the world.

Staying focus on Jesus does not mean we are going to walk around with blinders on our eyes.  It does not mean that we are going to be oblivious to all the things that are going on around us.  However, those things should not create such a distraction that will cause us to turn our eyes off Jesus.  That is the plan of the devil.  He wants us to loose focus and he is willing to accomplish that goal any way possible.  Peter knew what was going on around him.  He was not oblivious to his surrounding.  If he had remained focus, then he would have been ok.  Likewise, we might have problems in life, but we should never allow those situations to break our focus.  Why?  Well, consider Peter.  Did focusing on the waves helped Peter at all?  No!! We see that giving attention to those things will only get us in trouble.  In Peter's case, he started to sink and the same thing happens to us when we focus on our problems and not the solution, Jesus Christ.  Peter's business was to stay focus on Christ.  Friends, this world is battling for our attention, and the devil will employ any means necessary to distract us from the object of our attention, Jesus Christ.

The problem of ADSD affects how we see our Savior as well.  This problem has a escalating property and it affects us in every aspect of our spiritual life.  As a result, this generation is looking for a more radical Savior, because the old time religion, the old time Savior is just not "cool" anymore.  Currently, by many, He is boring and outdated. Many are saying that they just cannot relate.  Friends, do we need a God for every generation? We seem to want a manifestation that we can relate to in our demented state of mind.  Friend, do you see what is going on? Why do we keep revising the Bible? Other languages are fine, but we keep revising the English version.  We have gotten to the point where we are planning to produce an Ebonics Bible. This is the same as adding flavor to our sanctuary music. The justification by many church leaders was, “peradventure we might win a few. Let us introduce Christian rock, rap, jazz or gospel to the church as a soul-winning tool." Have mercy - joining the profane with the holy!!  Consider the following text:

Romans 1:21-23
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.

Consider these rhetorical Questions. Do you find the Bible boring?  Do you put it down, then reads as many love stories, comics, new paper, study books and magazines as you can get your hands on?. If yes, Why?  Maybe, it is because the simple lifestyle of God is not stimulating to us.  Maybe, we do not want to and cannot focus on Christ?  Peter is not the only one that has ADSD.  Many of us know within our selves that we are not excited about spiritual things.  Regardless, praise be to God, we have a savior that will never leave us nor forsake us.  What He did for Moses, He can do it for us.  He took him out of Egypt.  The attention taste buds of Moses were perverted by the glitter, glamour and excitement of Egypt that he could not focus on God.  However, in the wilderness, a simple, peaceful place, he was able to find the Lord, and there he could truly communicate with him.  The Lord removed him from the womb of perversion, so that he could experience His un-violated, untainted word and person.  Moses finally realized how invigorating and extremely stimulating the "simple" word and person of God is.

Just like stiff-necked and wayward Israel, we are living after the imaginations of our perverted and demented minds. What we need is to get back to basics – primitive godliness.  Like Moses, we need to find our wilderness, so that we can purify our perverted taste buds, so that we can zero in and focus on the simple truths of God. The bible says:

Romans 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Find your wilderness, friends. That might be the wilderness of watching less TV, the wilderness of reading more of Gods word, or the wilderness of eating simple foods.

Our God did not change. He is the same yesterday, today, and He will be the same tomorrow.  Friends, serving God calls for a sacrifice. The psalmist invites us to “enter into a convenant relationship by sacrifice.”  If you would like to start the journey back to primitive godliness, if you realize that God has to intervene to make it possible, and would like to solicit His help, then click on prayer request.
